Testing a miniature radio form temu!

its not a long time since I made a sub in Temu (started on April 2024), mainly for finding some useful cutlery utensils for the kitchen. As you may know Temu is a  very useful site for finding anything in extremely low prices. When it started  , around 2022 it was advertised as " buy a s billionaire"  which is roughly true. YOu can find many things at quite low  prices.

In the third order I added a mini cubic radio measured at 5 x 5 x  5 cm . It’s a fun mini radio with a very nice design and lots of added plugs for various ‘uses’ 

 

As  you ca see this is a very small radio  of  just 5 cm cube put nearby some minimal radios including a tescun 220 and a Tivdio 115 shown in the left of the photo

Here are the one part of its plugs. Audio in and audio out with standard 3.5mm plug , a mini USB  plug used before 2018 . It costs in-0between 8-11 EU f you are interested to buy it, you have to look at the proper  cable is it is now quit scarce in the local markets. It is very sad that this nice design has bot been updated so far.

There is also a micro SD card plug . I initially used a 512 MB card  M next step was to replaced with a 32 GB  TF card which included a few more file formats as WMA AAC MP4 OGG etc  None of them were supported except MP3 !

 
The socket for a external USB stick . i m  really wondering if someone today is using such sticks.

 

 The rear size with the mini speaker. The sound is quite high that reaches the 80 db level  in a distance of 70 cm as measured with an app It is quite strong I think .

 

Operation: 

 Bluetooth : I had no issues with the speaker and the first BT connection . it was just a few seconds to pair with the smartphone. One of the fastest ever!

FM reception:  Prior to use you should first scan the band and store all working frequencies, then use the PREV and NEXT buttons for listening. As with all other modes, the sound quality is excellent, comparable to that of the Tivdio receivers. Using the PL330 in parallel, I discovered that this cube also exhibits very good selectivity and sensitivity when listening to a low-power station pirate signal at 88.3 MHz. There are two strong nearby   signals in 88 and 88.5 which seem not to affect reception .Note that I kept it in my hands at the time thi9s helped much for keeping the sensitivity at high

Battery  :  Although it appears to operate for up to approximately 10 hours at a volume of 20–22, or approximately 65 dB audio, this was not precisely the case. I operated it at 60%, as indicated by the Bluetooth connection, but after about two hours, the speaker signaled a low battery, causing the level to drop to 20%. The speaker shut off after less than a minute of use four times. Bugger!! 

Around 1.5 hours are required to charge  the battery in full. Around 3-4 hours are enough to drain the a fully charged battery.

Audio : As previously mentioned, you can adjust the audio in 30 steps, with the default level being 23. The level is around 60 db at a distance of 50–70 cm. The sound is very sharp and very close to the Tivdio’s speaker, which is very sharp when used in FM mode. 

Using the SD: As noted above, the mini speaker  also supports 32GB cards with only MP3 file formats, and it has finally counted all the included 1530 MP3 files!

As for other formats, the 512 MB card was temporarily filled with one sample of MP3, WMA, OGG, and ACC but doesn’t support any other format  except MP3.

Meanwhile Tivdio 115 supports also WMA . this is just a toy radio and mp3 player with MW SW and FM bands with poor but linear audio recording with unstable panning and full if internally generated  noise

 

My verdict  7.5/10 : this is a good gear that shines in both audio quality ,  selectivity  and sensitivity but lacks the recent USB-D  plug  bigger battery and support of other  audio file format.
